The South-central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource (SPEER) presents a 60-minute free webinar on “Unlocking The Energy Efficiency Potential In The Affordable Multifamily Building Sector ″ . The webinar will highlight the need for increasing energy efficiency (EE) in affordable multifamily buildings; present existing resources, and  introduce new programs and to facilitate EE investments in this sector.

Multifamily housing accounts for about a quarter of the total housing stock in the U.S. and is an important part of America’s low income housing supply. These affordable multi-family rental properties are seldom constructed or updated to include energy efficiency features and the cost of energy is often the largest expense for these residents. This unnecessary use of energy in these inefficient buildings can pose a significant threat to maintaining the affordability for residents in this sector. Improving the efficiency of affordable multifamily buildings allows the owners to reduce operating expenses, maintain affordable rents,, reduce carbon emissions, create more healthy and comfortable environments, and, free up capital for building owners to invest in resident services and other necessary building improvements.

Join this webinar to see innovative energy efficient and sustainable housing projects in our region and discuss the availability of viable funding options for energy efficiency projects (Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Utility Allowances etc.). The webinar will also introduce the Department of Energy (DOE)’Better Building Challenge (BBC) for Multifamily Program which offers incentives and technical assistance for participants who commit to make energy consumption reductions under the program.
