Happy Earth Day + 15 Years of SPEER!

Happy Earth Day 2026! This year SPEER is celebrating by marking our 15 year anniversary as an organization.

The South-Central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource, or SPEER, was formed in 2011 as a public purpose, mission driven, membership based, and industry supported non-profit educational partnership devoted to increasing the understanding and adoption of energy efficiency in our region of Texas and Oklahoma.

Our mission has always been simple: to improve the lives of Texans and Oklahomans by tirelessly working towards a more efficient, sustainable, resilient, and affordable landscape across our territory. We pursue this mission by building and leading partnerships across a diverse group of stakeholders, providing science-based resources and training, and promoting policies and best practices that advance energy efficiency technology, research, and innovation.

SPEER is a regional energy efficiency organization built on a solid foundation of stalwart programs that drive our work, including Energy Codes, State & Local Policy, Communications, and Community Efficiency Collaboration, which includes both our Community Efficiency Leadership Coalition and Texas Energy Advocates-University Program initiatives. Our membership base of over 70 industry-leading organizations provides instrumental support in the pursuit of our mission.

2026 marks 15 years of existence for our organization, and in this time SPEER’s activities and initiatives have had a significant impact in our region:

  • More than 10,000 energy code and building officials, mayors/city and county council officials, contractors, councils of government, third-party inspectors, home energy raters, university sustainability leaders, and other SPEER stakeholders have participated in our programs.
  • From our annual workshops to over 500 in-person and webinar-based activities, SPEER has continued to offer programs that are relevant and useful to our audience in the efficiency arena.
  • Serving more than 27,000,000 Texans and Oklahomans across more than 110 counties, our excitement about the possibilities of our great region remains strong.

As we look forward to the next 15 years and beyond, SPEER will continue to work relentlessly in the pursuit of our mission, promoting energy efficiency and demand-side measures throughout our region that strengthen local economies, improve health and quality of life, and protect the environment.

We are extremely thankful for the SPEER members past and present, collaborators, colleagues, and friends who have been with us in our journey thus far, and we look forward to continued progress in the years to come.
