SUMMARY:Webinar: Understanding the 2024 IECC Energy Rating Index – Section R406
DESCRIPTION:The Energy Rating Index (ERI) in the 2024 IECC is often misunderstood\, inconsistently enforced\, or incorrectly treated as a program rather than a code compliance path. This one-hour technical webinar provides a clear\, code-only breakdown of Section R406\, with a focus on how building officials\, plan reviewers\, and inspectors should review\, approve\, and verify ERI compliance in the field. \nParticipants will walk through how R406 fits within the IECC compliance framework\, what mandatory provisions still apply\, how ERI backstops limit trade-offs\, and what documentation is required for approval. The session emphasizes what the code actually says\, common enforcement failures\, and practical review and inspection checklists grounded entirely in the 2024 IECC. \nRegister here. \n\nTweet

SUMMARY:Webinar: 2024 IECC R405 Performance Path – What’s New\, What’s Required\, and How to Enforce It
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a focused training on the Simulated Building Performance Path found in Section R405 of the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code. This session explains how proposed home designs are modeled and compared to the Standard Reference Design\, highlights major changes from previous code editions\, and clarifies which building features can—and cannot—be traded off through performance modeling. We will cover updated HVAC and ventilation requirements\, infiltration limits\, renewable energy constraints\, and documentation expectations for plan reviewers and inspectors. Texas-specific adoption considerations will also be discussed to help ensure consistent and effective enforcement. \nTopics of Discussion: \n\n The 2024 IECC significantly tightens the performance path. The Standard Reference Design (SRD) baseline now reflects higher envelope values\, higher HVAC efficiency\, and updated hot water and lighting assumptions—greatly reducing the flexibility available in earlier IECC editions.\n\n\n Mandatory provisions cannot be modeled away. Blower door limits\, duct leakage thresholds\, ventilation requirements\, and mechanical control provisions must be met regardless of performance modeling results.\n\n\n R405 is not interchangeable with the ERI path. R405 remains cost-based and depends heavily on modeling accuracy\, while the ERI Path uses a scoring system. Understanding the differences is critical for both AHJs and modelers.\n\n\n Enforcement quality depends on documentation. R405 compliance reports\, SRD comparison tables\, mechanical schedules\, and testing verification must be consistent with both the plans and field installation. Texas jurisdictions should standardize submittal requirements to ensure reliability.\n\n\n Trade-offs are more limited in 2024—especially in Texas climates. High SHGC windows\, ducts in unconditioned spaces\, and weak insulation levels cannot be offset solely through mechanical upgrades or PV systems under the 2024 rules.\n\n\nTweet

SUMMARY:Webinar: 2024 IECC Residential: Duct Systems & Duct Testing—What Changed and How to Comply
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-depth look at the 2024 IECC residential duct system requirements. This session breaks down the latest code changes—covering duct location\, insulation\, leakage testing thresholds\, and new documentation standards. We’ll walk through Section R403.3 step by step\, highlighting the most significant updates\, exceptions\, and testing protocols. \nA major addition in 2024 is a new performance-based table for total duct system leakage\, replacing the old one-size-fits-all limit. The allowable leakage rate now varies by conditioned floor area served and the number of ducted returns—a fundamental shift that rewards tighter\, more efficient duct design and installation. \nTopics of Discussion: \n\nTesting Clarity Matters:\nThe 2024 IECC clarifies that Total Duct Leakage (TDL)\, not leakage to outside\, is the prescriptive compliance metric—ending years of confusion between testing types and helping ensure consistent enforcement across jurisdictions.\nNew Testing Allowances:\nThe new R403.3.8 table rewards well-designed\, compact duct layout and penalizes oversized\, leaky systems. Accuracy in test setup and documentation now matters more than ever.\n“Inside Conditioned Space” Isn’t Always What It Seems:\nMany systems labeled “inside” still fail compliance because of unsealed chases or ducts crossing unconditioned zones. The new ≤10-foot exception limit forces design and inspection teams to verify true envelope continuity.\n\n\nTweet

SUMMARY:Webinar - From the Field: Real-World Compliance and Enforcement Trends in the New IECC
DESCRIPTION:This session delivers a boots-on-the-ground perspective of how the 2021 and 2024 IECC are playing out in the field. We’ll explore what code officials\, energy inspectors\, and third-party verifiers are seeing during inspections—where compliance is working\, where it’s not\, and why. Expect practical insights on the most commonly missed requirements\, how builders are responding\, and strategies jurisdictions are using to improve consistency\, coordination\, and enforcement. Whether you’re enforcing the code or preparing for it\, this is the real talk you need. \nThree Lessons Learned: \n\nCommon Violations Stem from Documentation Gaps\, Not Just Install Mistakes: Builders often fail to submit HVAC designs\, duct leakage test results\, and ventilation documentation\, which makes enforcement difficult—even if the installation is adequate.\nThird-Party Coordination is Critical but Often Overlooked: Cities relying on third-party energy verifiers need clear communication and defined roles between verifiers\, inspectors\, and code officials to prevent missed steps in the field.\nTraining and Field Resources Make or Break Compliance: Jurisdictions that invested in inspector training\, updated checklists\, and clear plan review protocols saw far better compliance and fewer failures during final inspections.\n\n  \n\nTweet
